Parts Used: Root. Methods Used: Water extraction.
Spiritual Uses: None identified to date.

Physical Uses: Used by Native American women to promote menstrual flow and relieve cramps.

Traditionally given to pregnant Indian women to relieve the pain of childbirth and ease delivery.

Also used to relieve infant colic and cramps.

Acts as an expectorant when used to treat coughs.

 

Preparation:

TEA:

  1. Pour 1 pint of boiling water over 1 ounce of chopped root.
  2. Cover. Allow to steep for hour.
  3. Strain and discard root.
  4. Dosage: 2-tablespoon doses every 3 hours.
